I'm really sorry to hear about that.

First you need to get in touch with e-gold at 1 321 956 1200 use Option 4 number for e-gold - during business hours on US Eastern Standard Time. They can't get your money back, but they can change your password and also put a balance limit on the cracker's account - which may or may not help to keep that person from stealing from other accounts.

If you are in any daily paying programmes, e-mail the admins pronto to tell them what happened and to make sure they don't send any payments coming due to that e-gold account.

Don't try to log into your account until you have scanned your machine - chances are you have a Trojan and that's how the pass was grabbed - it could be a fake spend page, but usually, it's a Trojan. For that matter, don't try to log into any of your e-currency accounts until you know the machine is clean. Then change the passes on all of them.

If you need a good AV, and don't have any money and are using Windows, go to:

http://www.avast.com - it is far superior to AVG

You do need a good anti-Trojan (or more than one).

The free version of Pest-Patrol at:

http://www.pest-patrol.com as that's an always on security system. If you're not a geek, it won't help you remove things, but it will alert you to most things suspicious that crawl into your system.

Also download the freebie of a2: http://www.emsisoft.com/en/software/download/ which is not always on, but if you run it and it detects a Trojan, it will remove it. I believe there is also a free trial version of the full deal, as well as the freebie.

The Cleaner at:
http://www.moosoft.com is also excellent, and you can use it free for 30 days.

If you are using Internet Explorer and have Windows Media player on your machine, go to Microsoft and get the most recent updates of both of them right now - there is a very nasty exploit involving the two.

There's also all the 'do' stuff about firewalls, if you need help with security stuff, give a shout.

You can get a court order to try to get your gold back, but for under $1,000 US, usually it isn't worth it.

I am really sorry to hear about this

Best -
Rhys

From the sounds of it you are already in your account, so you don't need a new password. Which e-gold # was it sent to?

As for the money there is nothing you can do in reality but there is obviously some form of keylogger activity or trojan you have picked up if not you have broken the golden rule to access a payment feature without the secure sit of e-gold .
This is my advice take it or leave it
1) save all your confidential docs and relevant information you need .

2)Wipe your HDD and reformat it clear your Cmos and re-install windows.

3)Add your Security Software next and run the scans before you add anything else .

4)Then scan your saved information on the disk you saved to ensure there is nothing on this that can compromise your computer.Only then add it back to your computer if really needed.

5)After you have done this go to the official e-gold site and change your passphrase make sure it is a minimum of 8 characterswhich are mixed.I.E. #S% a_f+E Days to Crack this Passphrase
approximately 335,531 on one computer
To give you an idea of the enormity check this out :
http://www.certainkey.com/demos/password/

6)And from then on only access e-gold from there.

hope this helps you

I'd add:

3.1) Visit windowsupdate.microsoft.com, install all the critical updates for your system; do NOT use Internet Explorer and Outlook/Outlook Express before you perform these steps (of course you have to use IE to do it - but don't open any other site with it)

4.1) You might consider to download the Mozilla browser+mail client from www.mozilla.org and use it instead of IE+OE/Outlook. If you decide to do so, refrain completely form using Microsoft's mail clients and use IE only to access trusted sites (e.g. your bank's site) and only if Mozilla does not work with them.

It might be worthwhile mailing the known outexchangers from the egold directory too and advise them of the account number your gold was spent to.

Sooner or later whoever did that to you is going to want to turn gold into currency.

Also you could send it to e-told. they used to keep a directory of suspicious or known scam egold accounts.

Finally, as hard a pill as it may be to swallow you can relax in the knowledge that we each reap what we sew. Call it karma, call it what you like. There will come a day where people like that sit and wonder "why me"..........
