So you've achieved first page rankings but aren't seeing an increase in traffic. Improving the description that appears on the SERP's page can increase the number of visitors to your site.

The following are samples that are representative of some of the descriptions of sites that made it to the first page of the SERP's for the keyword phrase. If I were researching trek bikes, the first result listed below would certainly entice me to click through.

Trek Bicycle Superstore
Trek Bicycle Superstore, the number 1 Trek dealer in the USA and voted the Best Bicycle Store in San Diego.

If they are the number one dealer in the San Diego area they probably have a good inventory of bikes and are knowledgeable about trek bikes.

Trek Orange: Ride at your speed.
Meet Orange · Orange Life · Fun Stuff · Get Orange ·RIDE AT YOUR SPEED

The second example really doesn't tell me what to expect. What is Get Orange anyway? Is this a biking outfit that rides on the weekends and drinks orange drinks for energy? Who knows? Do they sell bikes or oranges? Get my point!

Hints for Writing Enticing Descriptions:

1. What will the visitor find when they click through. Make sure the page that appears matches the description.
2. Is there anything unique about your site or business that would encourage visitors to visit your site?
3. Determine what the primary keyword is for the page and use it in the description. Remember use the keyword near the beginning of the sentence and make sure it reads well for the visitor.
4. Be brief, but descriptive, remember people scan quickly today! Don't use any unnecessary words.
5. Don't use words like biggest, best, they're meaningless to your visitors.
6. Review the description, if you've rewritten it and still aren't seeing an increase in traffic, continue to adjust it.
