FA pledge after Palios resigns Aug 2 2004 The man who has taken over the reins at the Football Association after the resignation of chief executive Mark Palios vowed to sort out the sport's beleaguered governing body. Acting chief executive David Davies emerged from FA headquarters in London's Soho Square to tell reporters: "We have had problems in the past, we have always dealt with them, and we will deal with this one now." He was speaking the morning after Palios's shock resignation in the wake of the Faria Alam sex scandal, which is also threatening the job of England head coach Sven-Goran Eriksson. Palios quit after it emerged that FA chiefs had tried to keep his affair with Ms Alam secret in return for giving a tabloid newspaper details about Eriksson's fling with the 38-year-old. Davies emerged from his office to tell reporters: "Obviously, I am sad about Mark Palios's departure. "Mark was a hugely talented chief executive, not just talented in the financial sense, because he contributed a huge amount of the 13 months he was with us. "Our job now is to rally not just the FA staff, but everybody within the football community, to get the agenda back on to what we all care about. |
