Just going through my Gamebookers account for good soccer matches to bet on (ie. those that are likely to be certain winners). What do all the budding John Motsons think of these:

14 Aug 04 - Soccer
RANGERS v Livingston

BAYERN MUNCHEN v Hertha BSC

Wolverhampton v LEEDS UNITED

Lincoln v RUSHDEN

With the winners in CAPS

I reckon that the CAPS are all odds on favourites to win, Ace.

Not totally certain about Leeds though, now that they`ve lost one of their only decent strikers, Alan Smith, to Man. United.

Wolves could just pull it off.

Yeah, they're all odds on favourites. If you check out signals from any sports picker they always choose the odds-on fav.

Some of the premiership matches are just too close to call sometimes, like the Chelsea v Man U match, could go either way.

A-rsenal (censor) are playing Everton on the 15th, so that could be an interesting bet.

I added Chelsea v Man U this morning to my bets (for Chelski to win), so my performance for this week is

4 wins
3 losses

But M.U. did have most of the possession.

I know, and it pained me to bet against them, but with so many injuries, they didn't really stand much of a chance. Sorry!

Hey `Business is Business`

yup, quite painful to see MU lose.. but oh well, by the way, were those choices your own, or you got it off some 'list'/'tips' ....

Posted by: aceriker

My own choices khoong25, as Geoff said, they were all odds on favourites, but I'm guessing that all tipsters trawl through all the matches looking for the odds on favourites.

I'll post more as I find them.

ah, fair enough. I'm more of just a premiership person, rather than the other leagues.

As much as I'd never bet against MU, I did believe that Chelsea was going to win that, what with Ferdinand gone. However, I was always just hoping for some miracle, like when MU won the 1999 Champions' League......

Just looking at tomorrow nights friendly matches. These are always unpredictable because the stronger sides usually do experimental tactical stuff or play new players.

However, looking at the fixtures, I would consider going with these:

Japan v Argentina*
Turkey* v Belarus
Croatia* v Israel
France* v Bosnia
Iceland v Italy*
Spain* v Venezuela

* = winning team

What do you guys think? I'd like to get a consensus opinion before betting on these ones.

As you say, Ace, friendly matches are usually the ones where managers tend to experiment with their team selections. In fact remember Erikkson with his experiment of changing the side completely during games where 11 substitutes are allowed? Ridiculous!

Certainly on paper the sides you`ve asterisked should be the winners.

Kinda good day for me today:

Winners
Croatia v Israel
Spain v Venezuela
England v Ukraine
Austria v Germany
Japan v Argentina
Russia v Lithuania

Losers
France v Bosnia
Iceland v Italy
Turkey v Belarus

Cumulative Total
10 wins
6 losses

Can we make it better? Saturday and Sunday picks will be posted soon...

Just a suggestion for the format of the picks. How about something like in:
http://www.bettingadvice.com/

It would be interesting to see the odds that you are betting with... because even if you get 7 out of 10 correct, you might still lose if the odds haven't been high enough in the winning bets.

Thanks

Ace, although I`m not too sure of the form of the German sides at the moment, from my past knowledge of German football I`d go with your away choices.

The only one I think that I wouldn`t be too confident about is the Leicester City* v Watford result.

I`d love Inverness CT to beat Celtic (although I`m sure you wouldn`t though).

Geoff

Would you believe it, 7 out of 8

So where does that put my stats?

17 wins
7 losses

And here are my picks for 25th August:

Coventry City* v Torquay
Nottingham* v S****horpe
****nal* v Blackburn
Newcastle* v Norwich
Banik Ostrava v Bayer Leverkusen*
Manchester Utd* v Dinamo B.
Real Madrid* v Wisla Krakow

* = winning team

Well done, Ace. You got some great results there.

I have to laugh at the sensitivity in the deletion of certain letters in the opponents of both Nottingham and Blackburn.
