Signature Competition- A WINNER!

Signature Competition

I have noticed a lot of creative signatures popping up on a number of forums, such as Terri's at TG "I don't find the need to hide behind more than one fake name"

So we have decided to have a Signature Competition and the Winner, as voted by WL members will WIN $20 in e-gold

It can be funny, sarcastic, a slogan, a jingle or a quote but it must be Creative

Once we have a number submitted, we will select the TOP TEN and get WL members to VOTE for the most Creative Signature. The winner will WIN $20 in e-gold

To submit your signature, simply post in this thread

Good Luck!

Well in that case, I`ll start the ball rolling with my new signature.

Geoff

Posted by: winone

Is there a limit on how many we can submit?

Posted by: betrdanevr

Well, I guess I'm a little late with this suggestion, but I was going to request that we turn them in to you privately.

Show somebody your skating routine and they can always add a few more pirouettes. LOL

Would you be willing to set a deadline?

If your sig is really really good, the opposition will be able to do as many pirouettes as they want but still not win

Sigs are limited to 1 per person. The competition will finish at the end of the month, you are welcome to change your sigs prior to that date, to get them perfect and experiment with new designs and wording but they must be finalised prior to the end of the month. Also you must post in this thread so we know who is in the competition - GOOD LUCK

Even at TG someone has started a thread on the merits of Signatures, and whether they serve any useful purpose.

I must admit that I do like them, but unfortunately some members seem to want to include the Gettysburg Address in theirs.

Geoff

Posted by: admin

We currently have only 4 sigs for the competition An easy 20 bucks is up for grabs. I will leave it open for a few more days so that we can get at least 10 sigs and then vote. We will also throw in another $5 for second place, so it gives you a 2 in 10 chance of winning some EASY Gold. Simply post in this thread to enter and SHOW US YOUR SIG

JMHO, but way too many of them are just long lists of referral urls. Don't know what's happened these days over there at TG. Didn't they used to discourage that? Why have an advertising folder or referral threads? I'm not too keen on that, as you can tell . . .

Only one sig per member BUT you can modify it as many times as you want up until the cut off date, to get the sig perfected. The cut off date will be when 10 have been submited. We currently have around 4 as Terri just dropped out

The sig can be advertising, a jingle, a slogan, a saying, a quote, a comment, it can be serious or it can be funny but it MUST be creative, thats what this competition is about

I don't think so Terri, your "I only need to hide behind one fake name" was creative, you could use that one and I will probably vote for you

C`mon guys. $20 for a cute Signature. Surely we can get a few more to make up the 10.

Rixzta, are you 100%, completely and absolutely positive about that?

I make it that we`ve got 6 signatures so far. Just a few more and we`ll have a vote to pick the best one who`ll collect $20.

Geoff

Posted by: betrdanevr

Well, I guess I'll formally re-enter with my *new* one.

Terri

Posted by: forwardone

Sure, Terri, but do make sure that you don`t finish what you say you`ve almost achieved otherwise it won`t be true anymore.

Geoff

Posted by: betrdanevr

Okay. Two entries here. My final ones.

1."Get safe, encrypted e-mail from MailVault.

It's so safe, even YOU cannot access it!"

2. My current sig block.

Posted by: forwardone

Well, time seems to fly by, so we`ve decided to close the Signature Competition this coming Friday, 21st January.

There`s $20 to be won, but, to win it, you`ve got to be in it.

If you`ve got a catchy, witty, or otherwise attention catching signature, then why not post it in this thread.

After Friday we`ll collect them all together and put it to the members` votes to decide the best one.

Geoff

Posted by: forwardone

We know that the Rules of this competition stated that only one Signature could be submitted, but, we reckon that some members who have already entered one might like to submit another one as well.

So, if that`s the case, then just post in this thread and say what you would like a second signature to read. That means we now have a maximum of two.

Then, on Friday we`ll collect them all together and put them to the vote.

I think Terri`s already got her two in, anyone else?

Geoff

Posted by: search121

I'll take the chance to enter a second sig.

HYIP, HYIP....... Hooray?

Oh, Geoff, I'm so SORRY! I didn't go back and read the rules about only one entry! I guess I had been just so "dry" of ideas, I got overly excited!

Terri, no problem. You acted as a `prompt` to allow a couple of sigs, and hopefully we`ll get a few more before it closes.

Geoff

Only thing I can think for a sig.

Hype life: As the world of all my young and reckless children turn in the daze of their lives.

Hey and don`t forget that the 2nd placed Sig will receive $5.

http://www.web-life.org/vb/showthre...56&page=1&pp=20

Geoff

Posted by: forwardone

OK, the Signature Competition is now closed, and it`s almost time for the poll to decide a Winner!

As stated in the Rules when this was opened up, the ten most creative signatures would be selected for the members to choose from.

So, please, please, PLEASE vote now for the signature that really has caught your attention.

Geoff

Posted by: betrdanevr

Can you do an anonymous poll or are there too many?

Posted by: forwardone

Terri, I`ve set the Poll so that no-one else can see who voted for which one. (That seems to be the normal way of doing it I think). Also, it`s set to allow just one vote per member.

I`ve had to shorten a couple of signatures in the poll because it only a allows a certain number of characters to be used. I don`t think that`ll have too much effect though on the content of the Sig.

I`ve not set a closing date for the poll, but I think the results will be known by this time next week.

Hi Geoff,

I am thinking that requiring 3 compulsory votes per member may be better because that will force everyone to give atleast one vote to someone else, rather than simply voting for their own signature or signatures.

Just a thought...

Cheers
jojomataketa

Posted by: forwardone

I`m not sure the script allows for more than 2 votes anyway, jojo, or that even if more than one was allowed it would make it optional to cast say 2 or 3 votes, or compulsory.

Also, because some have entered a couple of sigs then it could make it unfair for the others who have only entered one.

Besides which I would hope that even those forum members who haven`t entered the competition would take a few seconds to vote for their favourite signature.

Sadly, the emoticons lack any sexually suggestive figures.
So, in response to the sig that is winning I say, "Hold This". . . . use your imagination . . .

The poll has now closed, and the Signature Competition has now finished.

Proving that `You have to be in it to win it` we can now announce the first and second places.

1st place goes to search121 with If I told you, you had a beautiful body, would you hold it against me?

Wins $20

2nd place goes to betrdanevr, (Terri) with Get safe, encrypted e-mail from MailVault. It`s so safe, even YOU cannot access it!

Wins $5

If both of you would PM me your e-gold nos. I`ll get your winnings sent off to you.

So, congratulations to our winner and runner-up, and many thanks to all those who took part in the competition.

Thanks Teri.

And to you golddust, I happen to think my sig is pretty imaginative. Maybe you just don't get the word play. In any case, I don't appreciate being attacked.

Whoa now, I WAS going to congratulate you, even though there is a C&W song that has that EXACT phrase in it! NOT imaginative and NOT original. Still you win, probably because as Terri said,
Quote:

As far as "play" (???), p - leeeease, I was not serious, just having some fun.
Perhaps you just don't have any one to hold it against you.

Congrats Terri, your sig is right on!

golddust

Posted by: friendly

I thought everyone would have known the song, which is why I'm surprised so many voted for it as being the most creative.

Posted by: forwardone

Well, if I might step into this one, going back to the original Rules,
Quote:
It can be funny, sarcastic, a slogan, a jingle or a quote but it must be Creative
One of those suggestions was the word quote. Now by it`s very nature a quote can`t be original, so could it be classed as creative? Someone else has already at some point in time put pen to paper and written those words. But, that quote, can be creative if used in certain situations.

I didn`t vote for the winning signature based on the fact that as soon as I saw it I actually started humming the tune. I also thought that there were several very good alternatives. But, the winning signature won by a clear majority so I guess those members must have liked it, or of course been too young to remember the song.

Geoff

Posted by: rixzta

At first I was dissapointed....and then, well, I thought it didn't really matter anyway...I think......or does it ?

Anyways....congrats to the winners

Posted by: golddust

Love the decisive response Rixzta! It only matters because Geoff brought up this point in interpreting the "rules" of the competition-
Quote:
But, that quote, can be creative if used in certain situations.
Sorry everyone, but how creative is the winning slogan - a well-worn quote from a somewhat well known song (depending on age and country), and how applicable is it to the "situation"?
Yes, there were other entries that weren't "situation" specific, but at least, they were original and creative.
