Botox For Migraine Headaches? June 23 , 2005 Botox, better known as a wrinkle-cure, may help some patients who suffer from migraine headaches, according to findings presented at the American Headache Society annual meeting in Philadelphia. Researchers at the Mayo Clinic studied a group of 288 migraine sufferes, mostly women, over a period of 11 months. Some of the study participants received Botox injections while others got placebo injections. The researchers found that by the end of the study period, headache frequency was cut by more than half among those in the Botox group. In other migraine headache news, a AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals funded a study to see if its nasal spray Zomig could help kids with migraines showed slightly more than 50 percent of young people tested were nearly three times more likely to find relief from pain within an hour of taking the nasal spray compared to those given a placebo. Zomig, a ************ nasal spray is currently approved in the U.S. for adults with migraines. More than 28 million Americans suffer from migraine, with women being affected three times more often than men. |
