A memorial service for 'Crocodile Hunter' Steve Irwin has been held at his zoo in Australia. (Picture: Reuters) Hollywood stars, leading politicians and a khaki-wearing choir all said goodbye to the 44-year-old who was killed by a stingray earlier this month. Cameron Diaz, Justin Timberlake and Russell Crowe sent recorded messages to the event which was attended by 5,000 Irwin fans. His eight-year-old daughter Bindi led the tributes at the Crocoseum in Queensland. She said: "My daddy was my hero, he was always there for me when I needed him. "I had the best Daddy in the whole world and I will miss him every day. "Whenever I see a crocodile I will always think of him. And I know that Daddy made this zoo so everyone could come and learn to love all the animals. Daddy made this place his whole life. Now it's our turn to help Daddy." Australian prime minister John Howard said: "Steve Irwin touched the hearts of Australians and touched the hearts of millions around the world. "He did that because he had that quality of being genuine, of being authentic, of being unconditional, of having a great zest for life." |
